Application Process
1. Contact AISV Admissions
Please email or call AISV Admissions before starting your application:
Inquire about grade-level availability
Confirm the grade level applying for by consulting this chart
Inquire about grade level placement when transferring from Southern Hemisphere school systems
Request a virtual or in-person appointment with an AISV Admissions representative for us to learn more about your family and for you to see the school and ask any questions
2. Complete Your Application
Go to the Apply Now! page to start your application.
Create your account on our website in order to access the Application Portal
Log into your Application Portal to add an application (one application per student)
Complete the application checklist for each applicant
Contact AISV Admissions about any missing application items
Submitting an application does not guarantee admission. A student may be admitted only if the application has been completed and reviewed positively and if a grade-level place is still available. Donations are not accepted from parents of applicants, their friends, or employers during the application process.
Application Checklist Items (Parents)
For each application, families are asked to provide:
General information about the family
Detailed schooling history for each student
Latest school report for the current school year (PDF file)
End-of-year school reports for the previous two school years (PDF file)
Standardized test scores (if available) (PDF file)
Learning support documentation (if applicable) (PDF file)
Copy of applicant’s passport (PDF or JPEG file)
Applicant photo (JPEG file)
Signed agreement forms (PDF or JPEG file)
Non-refundable Application Fee of €600 (valid for two years)
All forms and prompts are located in the Application Portal.
Writing Sample (Student)
For each Grade 6-12 application, students are asked to provide:
Grade 6-8 Applicant self-evaluation
Grade 9-12 Applicant essay
All forms and prompts are located in the Application Portal.
Confidential References (Current School)
For each application, the applicant’s current teacher/school administrator is asked to complete our confidential reference form.
Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten applications:
Classroom teacher
Grades 1 to 5 applications:
Principal / Counselor / Form tutor
Classroom teacher
Grades 6-12 applications:
Principal / Counselor / Form tutor / Klassenvorstand
Math teacher
English teacher
In the Application Portal, you will enter the email addresses of current teachers/school administrators to complete our confidential reference forms. Once you enter the email address, our system will automatically send the respective teacher an online form to complete (in their native language). Once the teacher completes the form, it is automatically sent back to AISV.
3. Complete Academic Screening
Once an application has been completed, the applicant may be invited to complete online or in-person screenings and/or placement tests.
Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten & Grade 1 applications:
In-person “Early Childhood Screening”
Grades 2-8 applications:
In-person or online academic screening in math and English
Grades 9-12 applications:
In-person or online placement test in math
Online English assessment (if applicable)
Additional academic screenings and/or documentation may be requested by AISV during the application and/or enrollment process.
4. Receive Admissions Decision
Each completed application is reviewed by an admissions committee and will lead to an admissions decision.
Offer of Admission: The application was positively reviewed and there is a grade-level/program place available, in order of AISV Admissions Priority Categories
Waitlist: The application was positively reviewed, but there is currently no grade-level/program place available; AISV will contact you if a place opens up
Denied: The application does not meet grade-level standards and/or support programs are filled to maximum capacity
AISV maintains waiting pools in each grade level for positively reviewed applications for one school year only. If no place becomes available for a waitlisted applicant, the family may "roll over" the application to the next school year. The application fee is valid for two years.
5. Confirm Enrollment
Once a family accepts our offer of admission, AISV requires the following items:
Payment of the Reservation Fee (if applicable) within 10 days
Agreement to AISV school policies within 10 days
Signed enrollment contract within 10 days
Completed medical forms by May 31 or upon mid-year entry
Medical Form A & immunization record: to be completed by the parents
Medical Form B: to be completed by a doctor (no earlier than Feb 1)
Final report card or transcript from the previous school by July 31 or upon mid-year entry
Additional screenings/placement tests may be conducted before or upon arrival
6. Start School
New Family Orientation (August only): All families of new students are invited to join a half-day orientation event on the day before the first day of the school year. At the orientation, families will:
Meet teachers and see classrooms
Tour the school
Meet student buddies
Receive laptop and tech training (Grades 6-12)
Receive Parent ID card (also for nannies & other family members)
Learn how to navigate the online Parent Portal
Sign up for school bus and school lunch
Mid-year admits will receive all orientation information in a personalized format upon arrival. More information about your child(ren)’s first day of school can be found on our Admitted Students page.
Application Timelines
Start-of-Year Admission
The application for the following school year will open in the preceding autumn.
Deadline for "best consideration" for start-of-year admission (based on Admissions Priority Categories) is February 1. After this date, candidates will be considered based on priority, availability of grade level places, and date of completed application. Admissions Priority Categories will be honored until April 1.
Admissions decisions are sent via email on or after April 1.
For start-of-year applications completed after May and during the summer break, please allow up to 3-4 weeks for processing. Please contact us to inquire about places available in the relevant grade level(s).
Rolling Admission
AIS Vienna offers "rolling" admission for Pre-Kindergarten-Grade 8, and semester-based admission for Grades 9-11, pending availability of places in each grade level.
Grades 9-12 applications must be completed no later than August 1 for Semester 1 consideration, or by December 1 for Semester 2 consideration.
International families moving to Austria for work-related reasons are prioritized for mid-year admission.
Acceptance & Waiting Pools
AIS Vienna maintains waiting pools in each grade level for positively reviewed applications for one school year only. If no place becomes available for a waitlisted applicant, the family may "roll over" the application to the next school year. The application fee is valid for two years.
An offer of admission will be made only when:
The family has completed all application items, including screening or testing
The school has positively reviewed the application
A place is available in the required grade level
Once an offer of admission has been made, a place at AISV is not guaranteed until:
The family has accepted the offer, signed the contract, and paid the Reservation Fee by the stated deadline
The family has provided the school with further documentation (if applicable) by the stated deadline
The family has paid the full school invoice by the stated deadline, once issued by the school
Payments
Fees are payable at the following times:
Application Fee: at the time of application
Reservation Fee: within 10 days of receiving an offer of admission
Remaining Tuition & Fees: on August 31 (for start-of-year) or by the due date stated on the invoice (for mid-year enrollment)
