Clubs & Leadership

Our MS and HS students have the opportunity to join or create their own activities and clubs. Activities have a set 'season' and have, at least, one culminating event. Clubs are more loose, meet when needed and are student driven.

Various clubs and activities start throughout the year. In addition the High School has a Club & Activity Fair (during the school day) at the start of each school year where all activities are introduced.

Middle School Clubs & Activities

  • AIS Vienna is a member of AMIS (The Association for Music in International Schools). AMIS is dedicated to the promotion of excellence at all levels of music education and sponsors a variety of festivals annually, which are especially designed to benefit students in international schools in Europe and the Middle East.

Students that are taking MS/HS music classes can audition for a place in the Honor festival. There are no guaranteed places for AIS Vienna students.

More information about AMIS can be found at: http://amis-online.org/.

  • Our MS Math Team competes in the ISMTF or the CEESA tournament. Visit http://www.ismtf.org/.

  • The Middle School Play is an immersive drama experience open to all middle school grades. Students may audition for parts in December or apply for backstage roles as early as November. The philosophy of the program is to build the basic skills in all areas of theatrical production - acting, lights, set design, publicity, etc - that will allow students to run their own productions by the time they are juniors and seniors in high school. The adult director(s) of the show explicitly instructs students in these skills, giving them the support that they need while scaffolding the production to be as student-driven as possible. The final performances take place in February and are run entirely by students trained in their specific roles.

  • The Speech and Debate Club provides students with the opportunity to develop their critical thinking, research, and communication skills. Through debate, students learn to think critically about issues, to research and present information effectively, and to communicate their ideas persuasively. Speech provides them an opportunity to participate in different categories like Impromptu, Original Oratory, Dual Acting, Oral Interpretation, etc.

Speech and debate is a competitive activity that requires a variety of skills, including:

    • Public speaking: The ability to deliver a speech or presentation in a clear, confident, and engaging manner.
    • Debate skills: The ability to construct and defend arguments, identify and refute opposing arguments, and think on your feet.
    • Collaboration: The ability to work effectively with others, such as teammates or coaches.

In addition to these skills, speech and debate can also help students develop other important skills, like time management, organisation, problem solving and leadership.

The club meets during school to discuss upcoming debates, to practice their speeches, and to receive feedback from their peers and coaches. Students of MS are welcome to join the Speech and Debate Club. No prior experience is necessary.

The CEESA competition will happen in mid November at Bucharest.
