After School Activities

Our AIS Vienna After School Activities Program offers students the opportunity to participate in guided, engaging activities that complement and enhance the curriculum in their daily education. Students are able to interact with friends and students from different grade levels while participating in a wide range of activities.

The ASA program is fee based and offers a wide variety of activities for primarily Elementary School students. After School Activities take place on a semester basis.

Current families CAN ONLY register for ASAs via the internal After School Activities website found in the Parent Portal under Resources > Links.

Activity Examples

Below are examples of activities that we offer. For current offerings please visit the internal website.

  • The group will be split into KG-G2 and G3-G5 for all activities each week for 90 minutes of 3 different ball sports organized using fun drills and games. Sports on offer will include handball, basketball, baseball, short tennis, badminton, hockey, dodge-ball, kick ball, volleyball, American football (touch), soccer and many more will be offered to develop a range of skills.

    With our younger group these sports will be broken down to individual components, e.g. we may not play a volleyball match but we will practice keeping the ball of the ground, in hockey we will practice ball etc. We will endeavor to create a fun filled and high energy environment in which your child can immerse themselves in each week.

  • This activity is based on the concept of the kaidap – Basketball Academy.

    It will help teach the fundamental techniques of Basketball such like shooting, passing, dribbling and defense. While at the same time promote a hard working, fun and a positive environment. It will incorporate a structured program with adaptive and innovative teaching, which promotes progressive learning. Every aspect of the game, from basic exercises to exciting games, will be covered. All skill levels are encouraged and welcome to join and try it out. This activity will be instructed by Kevin Payton, kaidap – Basketball Academy founder and coach, former D1 (University of Minnesota) and professional basketball player.

  • Capoeira is a Brazilian Martial Art which mix Dance and Acrobatic making it one of the most complete sport in the world.

    For boy or girls, the goals include: to arouse children's interest in sport, to get to know their own bodies better, to learn how to work with others in a group and to acquire knowledge. The valuable combination of music and movement has a particularly positive effect on children's ability to coordinate.

    With More then 25 years of experience teaching, my goal is to keep spreading the beauty and values of this brazilian culture for kids and adults of all ages. Always with love and respect for this art and everyone who arrive to my classes.

  • Join our exciting Cheerleading After-School Program designed for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders! This fun-filled activity focuses on teaching basic cheerleading skills such as chants, basic stunts, jumps and energetic routines. Children will learn teamwork, build confidence, and enhance their coordination in a supportive and enthusiastic environment. Each session includes warm-ups, skill-building exercises, and practice routines, culminating in a mini-performance to showcase their progress at the end of the semester. We welcome all students to participate — just bring your energy and enthusiasm!

  • Chess has plenty of educational benefits. Children learn to concentrate and be patient, to think before they take decisions, to feel responsible for their actions, to consider the other sides possibilities, and to learn from mistakes. This course is built on the "Step Method", which has been developed in the Netherlands specifically for children. Simple games and chess puzzles prepare the children to not only master the rules but also to see captures, checks and checkmates at once. If you fully master the rules, have played chess occasionally and want to improve, or if you just want to learn the rules of the game.

    This course is for beginners and for advanced players and will teach you the most important tactical motives and basic winning strategies in a fun way. For the younger group there is a special booklet "stepping stones" without text and with more pictures. For the older group a "Step Method" booklet is included in the price and there will be the possibility to take part in a competition.

  • Minecraft is an excellent tool for enhancing student logical and problem solving skills. Students can work in teams or individually to create their own online virtual environment. The activity will be iPad based not computer.

  • Apprentice Engineers: Mechanical Engineering - Master Machines (Grade 3-5)

    In our Apprentice program, you will explore the field of Mechanical Engineering and imagine, create, test, and improve a variety of machines and mechanical systems, both centuries old and state of the art! You will investigate fundamental concepts of potential and kinetic energy, traction, aerodynamics, the leverage effect, and durability while constructing exciting builds such as roller coasters, medieval catapults, and incredibly fast air-powered custom dragsters! You will explore how to create and test a hypothesis, measure angles and trajectories, observe gravity, friction and free body diagrams, experience inertia, and investigate Newton's Laws of Motion. To deepen your understanding of these concepts, you will experiment with LEGO® Education Kits, SpheroEdu, Mechatronics (with LittleBits®), and so much more!

  • Junior Engineers: Mechanical Engineering - Widgets and Gadgets (Grade K-2)

    In this program, you will invent, create, and improve mechanical marvels while investigating mechanical forces, movement and vibration all while learning about the fundamental properties of physics such as gravity, potential and kinetic energy, speed, and acceleration! You will explore the Engineering Design Process while you brainstorm, design, create, test, and refine a variety of exciting and fun builds! Through open and focused exploration students will construct their own roller coasters, catapults, spinners, buzzers, magical boomerang cans, and more! These concepts will be reinforced through programming and testing with a variety of technology and robots such as our rolling robot SPHERO and LEGO® Education kits. Educational FUN guaranteed!

  • Ever Wanted to be a super hero, a pirate or a monster or maybe a mix of all three and more?

    Do and be anything you can imagine as we play and perform together.

    Experience the comedy, drama and fun of theatre in comfortable setting with fun hands-on activities that grow the imagination, builds teamwork and enhances communication.

    Learn acting, pantomime and storytelling through playing classic games such as Park Bench, Freeze, Mirror, Party Guest and much more.

    Come play with us as we explore the imagination and storytelling through improvisational games and theatre activities.

    For grades 1,2 and 3, This afternoon school activity uses fun theatre games to teach storytelling and develop strong communication and teamwork skills.

    Join us as we get serious about being silly.

  • An hour an a half of immersion into German with homework support and games. We balance the work to be done with fun activities.

    Für 1.5 Stunden ins Deutsch eintauchen mit Hausaufgabenunterstützung und Spiele spielen. Wir stellen sicher, dass die Aufgaben mit Spaß gemeistert werden.

  • Moritz and his staff are our qualified gymnastics instructors. Students will participate in a variety of fun activities introducing them to a wide variety of gymnastic experiences. The children will use a variety of equipment such as a mini trampoline, ropes, rings floor apparatus, bars and boxes. All levels of ability will be catered for. This is not a formal gymnastics program.

  • Calling all future chefs!

    Let us bring the fun into the kitchen with Mini Chef Junior!

    Each week we will prepare a variety of dishes, some sweet and some savory. Students will receive a recipe card after each lesson to create their own Mini Chef recipe book. We will start off with basic cooking essentials, such as how to measure wet and dry ingredients and instructions for cooking with common ingredients.

    Learning such a valuable life skill in the kitchen is a great way to encourage independence & boost confidence all whilst honing their comprehension skills.

  • This club is all about playing! The goal of the club is to have fun on the playground or inside in the classroom. There will be special playground activities and games students can play indoors and outdoors.

    A small snack will be provided during the club.

    *Going to the playground will only be possible if the weather allows*

    Snack Cost is separate: 60 Euro per student for the whole ASA

  • Grade 5 and MS students are welcome to learn how to sail at Vienna's most famous sailing area. We invite you to join us at this historic location, home to Vienna's oldest sailing school and the city's most extensive sailing boat fleet. Our practical and theory courses will take you from a complete beginner to a capable skipper and beyond.

    Stepping into the world of sailing for the first time is exhilarating. The Sailing ASA training scheme will help you learn to sail, build confidence, become a useful crew member, and even learn how to skipper Pirat sailboats. Most courses can be taken individually or with friends, provided they meet our minimum age recommendations.

    Included in the price is the transportation cost to the venue (no return service), the learning book for the inshore license (BFA Guide in German) and the mobile phone learning-app (boats2sail Lernapp). Optional, the students can take the exam for the “inshore sailing license” at the end of the 6 sessions.

  • Have you ever wondered why some objects float in water, and other objects sink? Why a candle "disappears" when it burns? How to use a microscope and look at your own cells? Do you like carrying out experiments? Then join the Science Club!

    The Science Club is for curious students who want to learn more about Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Earth Science. We'll meet in the HS Science Lab for six exploratory sessions and lean more about the world around us.

  • Introducing our new baking course for kids "SWEETNESS SUPERSTARS", where young chefs will dive into the delightful and delicious world of baking! In this one-hour class, students will whip up their math skills by measuring and mixing ingredients, making learning as sweet as the treats they create. They'll roll out fun and creativity with fondant decorating, and perfect their icing techniques to craft masterpieces that are almost too pretty to eat. All ingredients and cutlery will be provided, so kids can focus on the fun. Each session is jam-packed with activities, mouth-watering sweets, and hands-on learning. This course is the ultimate blend of fun and education for budding bakers. Come join us and turn your kitchen into a playground of imagination and yummy delights!

  • Taekwondo is a modern Olympic sport. It is based on Korean traditions that are over 1000 years old. Basic human values and athletic abilities are combined. Concentration, self discipline, politeness, fairness and endurance are the most important qualities which are encouraged. This combination makes Taekwondo an excellent activity for children. An emphasis will be placed on flexibility, speed and coordination.

  • Tennis is a world-class sport captivating millions of players and fans all around the world. A constant program of tournaments and events takes place throughout the year and top players like Agassi, Federer or Nadal have become sporting icons for each generation.

    We are a young, qualified and well experienced team of tennis coaches dedicated to teach tennis to children of all ages. Our goal is for the children:

    -) To build early confidence in the game of tennis, a sport you can play for a lifetime.

    -) To realize the health benefits of exercise in a funny and interesting way.

    At AISV we offer individual and group lessons for up to 4 children per court. Tennis rackets will be provided if needed at no cost.

    On the registration form you can choose exactly which teacher, day and time you would prefer. Sign up early to get the preferred day/time. Each lesson goes for 50 minutes. Everyone has the availability of 1. If you sign up as a group you can simply state the names of the students in the comments section. The cost for individual lessons is € 40 per 50 minutes and group lessons are € 50 per 50 minutes. In the case of a group lesson the total cost will be split among the participants.

  • Ukulele is a great instrument. It is portable, it is versatile and it is a lot of fun to play! In this class we will learn to play single line melodies and we will learn to accompany using chords. We will be using these skills to play music together.

    For this class each participant will need their own instrument. Good ukuleles are easy to purchase, I can advise on where/what to buy if necessary.

  • Little Yogis & Yoginis at AIS for children in PK. KG and Grade 1.

    Experience holistic growth with Yoga knowledge! Strengthening the immune and nervous systems, reducing stress, and promoting balanced growth. By being more aware we will free the mind and body, fostering authenticity, creativity and concentration through playful activities.

    We will use yoga postures, partner yoga, celestial communication, meditation, power brain yoga and even try some fun face yoga. It's all about finding the magic of your Avatar. Join us in cultivating consciousness, healthy bodies, and happiness for a serene and joyful childhood.

  • YogArt is a weaving together of yoga and art. Weekly YogArt lessons will focus on one animal pose and image. Each 1.5 hour session will begin with a yoga practice followed by an art-making experience inspired by that particular animal. Participants will learn how to safely engage their bodies in the animal yoga posture followed by an opportunity to give visual form to their experiences through art making. 

    YogArt practices will include animal poses and imagery inspired by animals such as eagle, salamander, dog, cobra, butterfly, camel, and pigeon. Art making experiences will incorporate a variety of media and techniques including drawing and painting using pencil, watercolor, acrylic paint, paper and canvas. Yoga mats are optional and not required for the class.
