HS Global Builders in Portugal

Transforming Homes and Hearts One Brick at a Time Together

Fourteen High School Global Builders recently embarked on a rewarding journey to Braga, Portugal where they joined forces to construct a home for families in need. The ongoing project aims to transform an old carpentry workshop into six distinct residences, providing shelter for four refugee families and two local families facing hardship. Notably, AIS Vienna students spearheaded the initial, daunting task of cleaning the building three years ago, paving the way for the current transformation.

This year, the tasks were no less demanding, encompassing a diverse range of activities such as making cement, erecting walls, staining ceiling beams, hauling hefty buckets of cement and debris, and meticulously drilling holes in metal brackets. Each task required careful handling and patience. Despite the challenges, these 14 AIS Vienna students approached their responsibilities cheerfully and with exceptional productivity, earning praise for all their efforts at the end of the day.

This is one of the many ways in which we empower each student with the skills and character strengths necessary to be positively impactful global citizens.
