Grade 3 Presents Flood Prevention Models
On October 9, our 3rd graders proudly demonstrated their scientific understanding and engineering skills for their parents. As part of their unit on weather and climate, students were tasked with solving a real-world environmental challenge: limit the impact of floods in Vienna. Each group presented innovative flood management systems designed to reduce the impact of extreme weather events on urban communities.
Students engineered systems that could collect weather data and detect patterns. They used this data to activate early warning alarms for residents. Their designs also featured sustainable solutions such as green roofs, amphibious homes, water squares, flood barriers, and drainage canals to enhance flood resilience. These projects showcased not only their grasp of climate science but also their ability to apply engineering principles to real-life problems. We are incredibly proud of our young scientists and engineers!
