HS Environmental Scientists Get Hands-On Experience at Airport Customs Office

On Monday, April 29, the HS Environmental Science classes took a field trip to the Customs Office at the Vienna Airport to learn about how international Wildlife Crime is policed locally. Students were excited to meet Falco the sniffer dog and to participate in his training. Supported by the Natural History Museum's herpetology group, the visit was part of the ongoing Sparkling Science: Wildlife Crime program.

Previous activities with the Sparkling Science program include a kickoff meeting at the Natural History Museum, a workshop at the United Nations, campus visits from a National Geographic Explorer and a visit to Vienna Open Lab to extract cheetah DNA. Upcoming events include a workshop with WWF Austria and the creation of a display case at school to share what students have learned with the wider community.

Special thanks to our students for being such respectful representatives of our community and to Dr. Hanrahan for enabling us to offer this innovative learning opportunity.
