IB Environmental Science Students Join First IIASA Climate Champion Workshop
Congratulations to our three IB Environmental Science students who represented our school in the inaugural session of the IIASA Climate Champion initiative on October 2, 2024. Held at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, the workshop is part of a five-session series that promotes peer-to-peer exchanges between students and scientists to empower young people during the climate crisis. The students explored topics such as climate change, resilience, and climate justice through interactive discussions led by IIASA experts.
The workshop provided valuable insights that will help students incorporate real-world, evidence-based knowledge into their academic studies. This will enable them to further engage in environmental projects, and contribute to ongoing community initiatives focused on sustainability and climate action.
This initiative, part of IIASA’s research-education project “makingAchange”, emphasizes climate peer training. Future workshops will cover biodiversity, consumer behavior, and how dietary habits can mitigate climate change—topics that are integral to the student’s coursework and passion for environmental advocacy.
The connection was established by the school’s Eco Committee, with the support of Dr. Hanrahan, who is dedicated to fostering students' academic growth.
