Lifelong Learning

On February 7, our AIS Vienna faculty and staff took part in their third professional collaboration afternoon of this school year.

The day began with a return to our focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) with a “choiceboard” of workshops and discussions facilitated by faculty. The four sessions on offer were well-received as teachers had the opportunity to discuss with one another the many ways we can promote a sense of belonging in our community.

Meanwhile, Elementary School classroom teachers welcomed back Bridges in Math consultant Jackie Amato. Jackie’s modeled lessons for different grade levels, supported us with unit planning, and offered a session on assessment Wednesday afternoon. Feedback from teachers has been overwhelmingly positive as we continue to refine our implementation of the Bridges program.

For the remainder of the afternoon, Elementary School specialists and Middle and High School teachers collaborated around our subject area goals associated with consolidation and our CIS Self-Study. This mostly consisted of updating our written curriculum and aligning it for a clear progression of learning from PK-12. Some teams also reviewed student work to measure the impact of their shift in instructional approach, ensuring evidence-based decision-making about teaching and learning choices.

All in all, it was a meaningful and productive afternoon of learning.

These professional development and collaboration days throughout the school year serve to promote our teachers being lifelong learners and help us to continue offering the best educational experiences possible for our students.
