Middle School Field Trip Day
On October 18, our Middle School Students went on various field trips with their grade levels. Students had a fantastic time learning beyond the classroom and campus walls and engaging in service learning.
Grade 6 students visited the Mamuz Museum in Asparn an der Zaya, Lower Austria, to improve their understanding of paleolithic and neolithic history. Students spent the day touring the museum and participating in hands-on activities to bring history to life.
Grade 7 students visited two of Vienna’s most renowned museums, the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM) and the Naturhistorisches Museum (NHM), to learn more about concepts they are studying in Science and Social Studies. For Social Studies, students visited the art museum with a focus on the ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman sections. Students analyzed specific topics such as mythology, athletics, war, daily life, and social classes to help them better understand these societies through real artifacts. For Science, students explored the Naturhistorisches Museum. They engaged in scientific inquiry about matter and life sciences in various exhibits by making observations and asking questions.
Grade 8 students were given different options based on their individual interests. Some Grade 8 students visited ORF (Austrian News TV) and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM). This interdisciplinary field trip included information and insights into journalistic work and provided experiences of how public places, in this case the KHM, attempt to remove barriers, increase accessibility, and foster inclusivity for people with disabilities. The rest of the Grade 8 students remained on campus and participated in an exchange with students from the Clara Fey Schule, a school in the 19th District for children with intellectual challenges. They spent the morning engaged in a variety of creative and athletic activities. The afternoon was devoted to an activity related to our service-learning work with the school.
These are just some of the many ways the city of Vienna and surrounding areas make up our extended campus, with their many cultural offerings.
