Visiting Author Ondřej Cikán Reads Love Poetry

Yesterday, February 29, four HS German classes were delighted to host the Austrian Czech poet, translator, and publisher Ondřej Cikán at AIS Vienna. The author read some of his poems and translations from Czech to German and explained why a good translation must recognize both languages. In the Q&A session that followed the reading, students had the opportunity to ask Mr. Cikán about his inspirations, how to overcome writer's block, and why he decided to start his own publishing company. Mr. Cikán also talked to students individually and signed their books. It was a truly unique experience for students and teachers to learn first-hand how a poet finds the right words to rhyme.

This is one of the many ways our teachers create experiential learning opportunities that help our students aspire to pursue their passions, imagine possibilities, and make them real.
